2. FREEDOM
Undergraduate students have the opportunity to construct individualized majors and minors without the necessity of fulfilling core curriculum requirements. They also have the opportunity to construct their own research projects and even get published! Study what you want from the very beginning; we believe that excellence requires freedom.
3. SIZE
UR boasts a 9:1 student to faculty ratio with just under 4,000 undergraduates at the College of Arts and Sciences. We are a close-knit community where students and faculty learn from each other.
4. GUARANTEED FRESHMAN HOUSING
All freshmen are guaranteed housing on campus. Although given the option of moving off campus after their sophomore year, many students choose to live in residence halls as upper-classmen because of their high involvement in on-campus activities.
5. MERIT SCHOLARSHIP
All students are given automatic consideration for a merit scholarship when they apply by our priority deadline. Although not all international applicants who are admitted will receive a merit award, international scholarships generally range from $3000 to $12,000 per year.

Like most of our domestic students, international students are often looking ahead to continue their education beyond a bachelor's degree. The University of Rochester is among the top institutions in the nation that successfully send students on to graduate school, Ph.D. programs, and professional schools such as law and medicine. Depending on where you are headed, some students decide to stay in Rochester to apply to our graduate and Ph.D. programs within the departments, or to apply to our nationally renowned School of Medicine and Dentistry, the School of Nursing, the Simon School of Business, or the Margaret Warner School of Education.
9. ENGLISH LANGUAGE TRAINING
International students for whom English is a second language can be assured that the University of Rochester has the resources to strengthen their English language abilities. Our ESL program (English as a Second Language) will help international students with the nuances of using English in higher education.
